Digital Technology

Stage 1 CAD/CAM

Students will develop skills in the areas of Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and use of prototyping machines (3D printers, CNC mill and CNC lathe). Students’ knowledge and problem solving skills in design, construction and evaluation will be assessed through practical work, theoretical assignments and an investigation.

Stage 1 Digital Publishing A & B

Students will engage in publishing practices to develop skills using digital design software. Students will develop a range of skills in order to design and construct various printed materials such as flyers, posters and packaging. Information Publishing and Processing emulates the expectations of the design industry by using the current market expectation for software and hardware setups.

Students with a creative mindset will excel with the course’s framework of modern themes, visual design principles and a strong ICT foundation. Students will develop practical skills in photo manipulation, typography, layout techniques, working with dynamic shapes/materials and providing creative solutions to text-based communication tasks.

Stage 1 Information Technology A & B

Information Technology A: Students will develop practical skills in application programming and multimedia programming. Students use the C# language in Visual Studio (application development) and Unity (2D game/multimedia development).

Information Technology B: Continues exploring 2D application development with Unity and introduces studies into robotics systems. Students will program simple robots to complete various tasks such as following a random path, programming a basic A.I. or creating a robot that could be king of the sumo robo ring.

Stage 1 Multimedia A & B

Multimedia A: Students will cover topics related to digital graphics and animation in 2D/3D situations. Students will have the opportunity use green screen technologies to composite special effects shots into a finished clip.

Multimedia B: The focus is on film making and editing. Students will also author DVDs to distribute their finished film.

Stage 1 Photography A & B

Students will explore photographic technologies in both contemporary and historical settings, and analyse the impacts of technology including social, environmental, and sustainable consequences. Emphasis is on learning how to use a digital SLR camera on manual mode and image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop. Students will learn design principles and composition involving creative camera and creative darkroom techniques.

Stage 2 Digital Publishing

Students will engage in digital publishing and develop skills in computer aided graphics and design. Information Publishing and Processing emulates the expectations of the design industry, using the current market expectation for software and hardware setups, challenging students to implement visual solutions and branding for a variety of tasks. Students with a creative mindset will excel with the course framework of modern stylings, visual design principles and a strong ICT foundation. Focusing on desktop and electronic publishing, students will develop practical skills in photo manipulation, typography, layout techniques, working with dynamic shapes/materials and providing creative solutions to text-based communication tasks.

Stage 2 Game Design

Students will begin by focusing on 3D modelling using industry standard software such as Autodesk Maya. They will then take their own (and others) models in to the Unity 3D game engine to produce interactive levels. Some coding will be explored to enable the interactivity. Students will also have the opportunity to achieve competencies in the Certificate II in Creative Industries (Media) and Certificate III in Media.

Stage 2 Information Technology (IT) – Robotics

Students will engage in systems design and further the programming practices covered in Information Technology Stage 1. Students will develop ICT skills using industry standard programming languages, software and hardware. Students will undertake a development process to design and build a robot that completes a series of tasks. Throughout the course, students will develop programming skills, design skills and production skills. Students undertaking this course are challenged to work closely with others in order to bring their product to fruition, collaboratively debugging and documenting their journey.

Stage 2 Photography

Photography is the study and creation of capturing and manipulating images digitally to produce professional products. In Photography, students will investigate traditional and contemporary photographic practice including photographers, techniques and themes. Emphasis is on following the design process to create original products revolving around photography. Students will individually self-direct their studies in conjunction with the teacher.

Cert III Multimedia

Students will focus on 3D Animation and the production of 3D environments that can be used to create short films. This will involve learning how to model and animate 3D objects using industry standard software such as Autodesk Maya.
